Saturday, August 8th - Santiago
What a beautiful city! It has a European flair much more similar to Buenos Aires than cities I've visited in Colombia or Ecuador. Today we went on a city tour and really got a chance to see the varied neighborhoods! Our guide is quite knowledgable and was able to explain the Chile's relationship to it's Latin American neighbors! It was fascinating! Chile is a very conservative country. He explained that laws allowing divorce were just enacted about 10 years ago. All abortion is still illegal...as is homosexuality and gay marriage.
The view from the top of the hill was spectacular! The snow-capped mountains framed the city magnificently!

| The former Congressional building. The Congress is now located in Valparaiso on the coast. |
| Entrance to the President's Offices. The President remains living in his own permanent residence and merely works in the Presidential building. |
